DENUCLEARIZATION, DISARMAMENT & PEACE

All the great sayings in the great scriptures and ethical treatises of the world command us, as also the existential crisis of mankind makes it imperative for nations of the world – especially the great powers, to strive for the above noble ideals: Ayam nijaha paro veti ganana laghuchetasam, udaaracharitanaam tu vasudaiva kutumbakam” (To discriminate that ‘one is mine and the other is not’ is narrow-minded act; for liberal hearted the entire world is one family) and “Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Nir-Aamayaah | Sarve Bhadraanni Pashyantu Maa Kashcid-Duhkha-Bhaag-Bhavet | Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih || (Om, May All become Happy, May All be Free from Illness, May All See what is Auspicious, May no one Suffer, Om PeacePeacePeace) – thus exhort ancient Hindu scriptures and a Christian one commands, And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more - (Isaiah 2:4)”, etc. etc. For the very survival of humanity world peace is quite essential and all the energies and efforts of various nations should be directed at development with social, economic and political justice. We have not yet forgotten the first nuclear carnages in Hiroshima and Nagasaki; nor can we forget the two world wars and the horrors and genocides of the many post-WW invasions and wars in various regions including the current cataclysms. In this background it is really exhilarating to find the U.S. President Trump, despite all his warmongering rhetorical blasts and big power chauvinism, coming to senses and focusing on peace talks with leaders in trouble-spot zones, especially the recent summit with North Korean Chairman and now the future summit to be held with the other nuclear superpower Russia next month. It also appears very tactful of him to have sent the chief protagonist of neoconservative elite – Bolton – to Moscow as his envoy, thus trying the age-old wise measure of ‘giving keys to the thief for safe keeping’!  Needless to stress, the main agenda of the forthcoming summit between President Trump and President Putin should be striving toward international peace and development by reviving all the disarmament/ denuclearization treaties and measures given a go-by – mainly by the belligerent American regimes – in recent decades; likewise all sanctions against Russia and the current trade war with China, etc. by the US should end, bearing in mind the danger of such hegemonic sanctions and trade wars usually leading to real wars. Let the two superpowers set themselves up as role models for world peace. §§§
