PERMUTATIONS AND COMBINATIONS

in our country’s political scenario are fast changing. Telangana State is reeling under a cunning regime which would like to hunt with the hound and run with the hare. It is widely believed that KCR, the Telangana CM, secretly in league with Premier Modi, had announced the resignation of his ministry and called for the dissolution of the Assembly and conduct of fresh elections, about nine months in advance of the general elections, that it is due to such secret deal that the Governor Mr. Narasimhan had so quickly put the rubber stamp of his approval and also the Chief Election Commissioner so obligingly declared fresh elections per KCR’s schedule. However, all seems not to be well for him in Telangana with the Congress-I and Telugu Desam parties, long time rivals, coming together as also the Telangana Jana Samiti under the reputed Telangana movement leader Kodandaram and the CPI also joining them to form a great league opposing the ‘family despotic regime’ and declaring their aim to defeat it at all costs. However, given the fissiparous and power hungry nature of the never united Congress party, it is doubtful whether they can lead the league with any sincerity and sagacity, and do the necessary sacrifices and public relation exercises to satisfy their allies. Then, due to an attempt to murder on the opposition leader there by a ‘self-claiming admirer’ of his, which however is decried by that party as the outcome of a vicious plot by the ruling TDP and the same version strongly supported by the ruling BJP, the state of Andhra Pradesh is also in great convulsion nowadays and its chief minister and TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu is always on his feet, running here and there to form a national alliance against what he calls communal and betraying BJP government. But having watched his chameleon-like nature so frequently, whether people would still trust him seems quite doubtful. And with the fight against Modi’s corruption and despotism of the former BJP Union Ministers Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha, believed to be covertly supported by the veteran founding father of BJP, Advani, the stakes are not that sure for Modi & Co. either. It would be interesting to see if all these developments would lead to a definite shift away from the communal fanatic authoritarianism of the current central regime or would ultimately strengthen it further, but hope the people of the country, of the Telugu States in particular, would be wise and resolute enough to defeat the communal chauvinist forces and preserve the basic secular socialist ideals and democratic structure of our polity.       §§§
